National Train Your Dog Month Training Tip #5: Keep it Short and Simple

National Train Your Dog Month Training Tip #5: Keep it Short and Simple.  When teaching your pup a new command, make sure to keep them short and simple.

Example: Don't use long sentences like, "Momo, I would very much like for you to leave your dog toy  and come here right now." Your pup will probably just look at you like you're crazy.

Instead, use simple commands when training. Common examples are:

  • Sit
  • Stay
  • Come
  • Down (or Lay Down)
  • Drop it
  • Leave it
  • Off

Make sure everyone in your household knows and uses the same commands - to help avoid confusion, it's important for everyone to be consistent.
